The crown prince’s brother’s wife gave a birth today. It was boy, so no one ever has to worry anymore if Japanese constitution should be change so that a woman can be a Tenno, an emperor. Funny thing, last year before the girl’s pregnancy was reported, our Prime Minister, Junichiro Koizumi brought up the bill. And Japanese got so hot about it. Some people thought Japan would be the leading country in choosing a woman emperor—how many countries accept an emperor, by the way? Other people might thought it’s shouldn’t happen. As for me, I didn’t mind which gender take over the throne. If they didn’t have a boy—however many people still think guys are supposed to be ahead of women—a girl takes the place. This is why hearing the news made Japanese went hotter that a boy was born. After our Prime Minister had heard of the news of the girl’s pregnancy, he stopped arguing about the bill anymore. It’s obviously strange to us; from somewhere a rumor brought about that some technician would make the fertilized egg into a boy. People gossiped that’s why the Prime Minister never had to talk about it. And the technique is real, as I concern.
If you have a bit of information about being pregnant and giving a birth, that kind of stuff, you probably know that you can tell the sex by means of an ultrasound scan or something before he/she crawls through the birth canal. But the Imperial family kept it to themselves till this afternoon. I wondered if they, doctors, took so long time to change sex or just didn’t want to disturb the girl’s feeling, or just they didn’t like us. Kidding aside, without hearing any formal announcement, most Japanese except androphobias were sure of it would be a boy; as you are sure as The Bush says something queer every time in his speech.
Finally the fact gender pre-selection is real is known to us.
As a conclusion, I am glad the girl had a baby without a problem.

In the US, most people were very sarcastic about it -- like, "so glad she had a boy so the Japanese didn't have to trouble themselves with being fair, now they can continue being sexist without all the hassle of worrying about if it's right or not."
